WANT! by nightflameblue (4.00 / 2) #4 Thu Feb 28, 2008 at 02:19:28 PM EST
I don't have the room for it, but by gawd I'll knock out a wall and MAKE room.

if you measure it out by cam (2.00 / 0) #6 Thu Feb 28, 2008 at 02:36:21 PM EST
they are wider than my desk. I suspect they would cause ergonomic issues if you tried to develop against them as your head isn't made for swivelling in that motion with any frequency. They are probably good for NOC or SCADA setups though (or trader desk as Breaker mentioned). Touch screen was an option with them.

What I see when I look at that? by nightflameblue (4.00 / 1) #11 Thu Feb 28, 2008 at 03:17:41 PM EST
The ability to track three hours of music without having to side-scroll. I'm pretty sure the human head can handle moving sideways that slowly.

They'd have 4x20" flatpanels tiled per computer.

And 3 PCs.

Mouse Movement by haplopeart (2.00 / 0) #12 Thu Feb 28, 2008 at 03:51:44 PM EST
I already have to use reg hacks to get my mouse to move at an acceptable speed across a 1920x1200 monitor, I can't imagine how I'd get it to make across that beast in an acceptable way.

Trackball. by nightflameblue (4.00 / 1) #13 Thu Feb 28, 2008 at 04:29:01 PM EST
There's no way you'd use a mouse on something like that. You'd constantly be picking it up and moving it over.

That or a treadmill with a direction switch on the desktop.

Heh...I already use a Trackball by haplopeart (2.00 / 0) #26 Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 04:23:13 PM EST
I have used a Trackball on all my personal and work computers since 1990 or so...far superior in my opinion to any other type of mouse.

Logitech trackman all the way.  I just wish, they were not so damned hard to find sometimes when I need a new one.  I really wish they would get a little more attention from the community, pick up some of the gaming mouse features, enhanced sensitivity and the like.

Saw an interesting little mention somewhere by fencepost (2.00 / 0) #16 Thu Feb 28, 2008 at 11:45:47 PM EST
Not too terribly long ago.

It was a blurb about some high-powered trader who had a setup that was basically as close as you can get now to the whole-wall displays apparently shown in Minority Report (Cruise is a wackjob, etc. etc.). Between the monitors, the system(s) driving them, and the software it was probably tens of thousands of dollars of equipment and setup.

And by this guy's standards based on his income compared to the average person, it had probably cost him about as much as a cup of coffee costs most of us.

If that whole setup lets you get one or two better trades in a volatile market, it may have paid for itself in a single day or less.

I just had a call by ambrosen (2.00 / 0) #20 Fri Feb 29, 2008 at 05:42:21 AM EST
From a user who's complaining about the unusably enormous monitor she's just received.

It's, errm, 19 inches. And she's already dug a 15incher out of a skip to replace it. But she does live in Swindon.

Call her back and tell her by anonimouse (2.00 / 0) #21 Fri Feb 29, 2008 at 05:52:59 AM EST
The "return" address to post the 19" one is:
Anonimouse,
I mean really,
did you expect an address here?
Oh well
I suppose there is one born every minute.

And it was the first thing we thought of, it's just possible we'd have kept them for ourselves rather than getting them posted to you.
